Import Issue

Hello,
I am trying to import an mp3 file to audacity and it is only importing 1 second of the file and playback consists of a high pitched squeal. The file that I am trying to import plays in Windows Media Player in its entirety just fine. I have tried other mp3 files and they are importing fine. I double checked the file extension and it is .mp3. I did try searching the forum and have found similar issues but most were resolved by folks realizing they are not importing a .mp3.

FYI - I am using audacity 2.0.6 and have LAME 3.99.3 and FFmpeg 2.2.2.

Most likely it isn’t an MP3 file. Even if the file extension says “.mp3” it may not actually be an MP3 encoded file.
I think that the free version of dBPowerAmp should be able to tell you what the format actually is.

Have you tried forcing FFmpeg to import the file? File > Import > Audio… or File > Open… , choose “FFmpeg-compatible files” in the “Files of type:” dropdown, then select the “MP3” file.
