Import from CD

please forgive if this has been covered in nauseam…but I am a newcomer to digital, coming from a analog world. My question…what is the best way to transfer/copy something from a cd onto a track using the cd player in the computer? I am win 7 with 2.6. thanks so very much…

The best way is called “ripping”. That is to “digitally extract” the audio from the CD. There are programs specifically for that task, such as CDex and Exact Audio Copy.

Sound on an Audio CD is in special, space-saving format. It’s not normal sound files. To transfer from a CD you have to “rip” the work with a CD Ripper program such as iTunes or CDex.

thanks. you folks are terrific. so glad to be part of the audacity family. your ideas are great. I also find that if I use my a/d interface I can either go direct or save to a mp3 file and bring it in to an assigned track. thanks…
