When I import an audio mp3 file, it condenses and changes the audio in the file. It took about a 15 minute long audio clip and turned in into 3 seconds of noise. Please help.
The file is not a valid MP3 file.
You can install MediaInfo to see what you actually have there (it’s not an MP3). You can make Windows stop hiding filename extensions (turns out MyMusic.mp3 is really MyMusic.ac3). You can install VLC and use the INFO tools inside that (Codec Details > Stream 0), or you can install FFMpeg software in Audacity and just open it and get on with it.
