I'm trying to use Voxengo SPAN with Audacity, what is this dumbass doing wrong?

Dear Anyone.

This is what Google told me to do to use Voxengo SPAN, Spectrum Analyzer, in Audacity.

  1. Select Audio: Double-click your recorded track to highlight it.
  2. Launch SPAN: Go to the top menu, select Effect, look under the VST or Analyze subcategories, and click SPAN.
  3. Analyze: Hit Play inside Audacity. The graph inside the SPAN window will immediately begin mapping your real-time frequencies.

Er - I can’t make any of that work! I’ve got SPAN visible in the Effects menu. If I choose it so its window appears in Audacity on top of my recorded track, pressing PLAY does nothing. Pressing PREVIEW works - but you only get the first 5 seconds because it’s a preview! If I click on APPLY, I get a little progress bar, then the SPAN window vanishes and I can’t see any spectrum analyzer details. If I press PLAY first THEN try to get to SPAN in the Effects menu, it’s there but greyed out so I can’t use it!

But Google AI says it IS possible to use SPAN in Audacity - so what am I doing wrong? I don’t get it. (PLEASE be nice with the techiness of the replies, I’m not a tech., I just want to see the spectrum analyses of the tracks I record! )

If it helps, just noticed it’s coming up as Span PLUS, not just Span. Not sure what the difference is.

Yours respectfully,

Chris.

Are you clicking play on the plug-in, or in Audacity? Whichever you are doing, try the opposite.

There are two effect menus . You want the realtime Effect menu on the far left, (not “top”).

Span PLUS is paid for version. The free version is sufficient for most users.
