I want to slow an audio file down but cant seem to do it!
If you are using Audacity v1.3.14 (which I what I am familiar with), you proceed as follows:
File…Import… your audio track
Select the entire track
Effects…Change tempo…
Note how long this says the track is and in the input field, key a smaller number. For example: If the Change Tempo window says the recordings is 246.5 seconds long, key something like 234.0 and listen to the result. If you do not like the result, use Ctrl+Z to undo your change.
Do you want to slow it down like playing a tape/vinyl at a slower speed? (that is, making it slower and lower pitch?) If so, use “Effect > Change Speed”)
If you want to slow it down while keeping the pitch the same, use “change tempo”.
Other way - if you want it slower, the length of the track needs to get longer (bigger number).
