As usual I have no idea what you are actually asking

What do you mean “doing an lp”?
What do you mean “finding the high point in the song”?
“either the orchestra is too loud or the vocalist is” ???

Do you mean that you are trying to set the recording level?

hi steve

"by doing "i mean recording an lp…by high point i mean where the wave reach the top of the top of the wave editor…and yes im trying to set the recording level…

lenny

Hi Lenny, I understand now.
Are you using a USB turntable? or a normal one connected to the sound card input? or a normal turntable connected to the computer through a USB pre-amp? or something else?

Are you able to adjust the recording level at all?

hi steve

im using a usb turntable to an exterior soundcard…im using a preamp from my turntable then into my computer…im not using a regular reciever anymore…yep i can adjust
the sound as its going into my cumputer from my sound card…

lenny

hi
is there anything u can suggest??

lenny

Set Audacity to record at 32 bit (Edit > Preferences > Quality)
Then record the whole thing a bit “too quiet” (set the recording level lower to allow more “headroom” for those loud bits).
You can record at a fairly low level, then use the Amplify effect after you have finished recording to bring the level up to maximum.
As long as you don’t go too extreme the sound quality will not suffer.

hi
and thisll work?do i record the lp as a whole or seperate the tracks like i usually do it?

lenny

Whatever works for you.
