I need Your help

Hi. Not too long ago I’ve installed Audacity 2.0.2. but today I uninstalled it and installed Audacity 2.0.3 ,I have Windows 8.I need Audacity for one of my course I’m taking on-line, for this purpose I bought a microphone too. When I’m trying to register my voice with Audacity and microphone it’s says : Error while opening sound device. Please check input device settings and the project sample rate. What does this mean? I was trying by myself to solve this but I couldn’t that is why I’m asking your help

The message means that Audacity is trying to open the recording device that is selected in the Device Toolbar but is unable to do so. For a USB mic you need to select the USB option as the recording device and your normal sound card as the playback device. Check what options are selected and what other options are available in the Device Toolbar.

By the way, to update Audacity 2.x to a later 2.x version, you don’t need to uninstall first. If you are using the default installation options you can just install the new version over the top of the older version.

Thank you very much for your fast reply I’ll try to do everything you told me to do

I’m really sorry but I’m not strong at this at all. You told me to select the USB option as the recording device and your normal sound track as the playback device. Can you tell me please where I can find this, I mean where I can find the USB option. explain me please more detailed, cause it"s really hard for me. I appreciate very much your help, thank you.

Hi Steve It’s me again, I wrote you one more message but I’m not sure you received it,tell me please from where to select the USB option as the recording device , I’m sorry but I don’t know almost anything in this domain, I’ll appreciate very much your help. Thank you.

in the Device Toolbar.
Ensure that your USB microphone is connected before you open Audacity.
I am assuming that it is a USB microphone? I don’t think that you actually told us what sort of microphone or how it connects to the computer.

If the microphone is not USB but plugs into a small round “Mic” input, ensure that it is enabled in the Windows Sound Control Panel. Then select the mic input in the Audacity Device Toolbar.

Steve, right now I can register my voice, but I have another problem ,when I’m registering my voice ,after I’m trying to listen to what I’ve registered but I cannot understand anything, it’s nothing clear, maybe while I was trying to make everything to work I did something wrong to voice settings or something like this. In order to help you I’ll tell you this: While I’m working at the computer I’m listening to online radio and all the voices of the moderators of the radio changed in a weird way,it’s fun to listen to them right now. Tell me please what should I do right now?

See here for how to turn off Windows sound effects for recording and playback:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements .

You may also have to open the Windows Control Panel, find your sound card control panel, and turn all the effects off.
