I need help. I can't record.

I have used Audacity for many years. But yesterday, for some weird reason, I couldn’t get my microphone inside of Audacity to record. All I got was a straight line. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing would work, which was very frustrating.

I then wondered if, in my attempt to get it working, I had messed up something. So I tried to reset everything back to the default mode. But that didn’t work either. So I deleted the entire application and attempted to totally download and begin from the beginning. But now I can’t even get it to open. ughhhh. I am very frustrated. Nothing is working at all.

I have a regular podcast that I need to record and scheduled appointments for interviews, and nothing is working.

Is there anyone who can help me get this reset and working again?

Have you selected the microphone as your Recording Device?

What do you mean by “inside Audacity”? Does the mic work and can you set it up so you can hear the microphone through the speakers (without running Audacity)?

:stuck_out_tongue: It’s a computer. Did you expect it to be reliable every time? :stuck_out_tongue: Seriously… If you’re doing interviews, I suggest getting a portable solid state recorder and then use the recorder and the computer in parallel, and take notes too!

Or you can use your phone, but you’ve got various apps loaded/running on your phone too and it also can get accidentally “re-configured”.
