I can't select with SHIFT / Arrow after I delete

After the latest updates, after I delete something I have to click back in the audacity window if I want to select something by holding down Shift and using the Arrows. Is anyone else getting this problem? Is it a deliberate change to the interface.

I’m not sure what you’re doing. Could you describe step by step how to reproduce the problem?

Hi Bill - thank you for getting back to me. I’m using 3.2.5 When I select a track, I use my mouse to click, then I hold the shift and arrow button. It works only once though. I keep needing to re-click with my mouse every time before holding the shift and arrow. For example. I hold the shift, and arrow and section, then delete it. If I need to delete a little more it won’t allow me to continue deleting with the keyboard shift and arrow. Instead I need to keep using the mouse. I only get one delete at a time. This never happened before the update.

If I’m understanding you correctly, then I can’t reproduce your problem.

This is with Audacity 3.2.5 on an Intel iMac.

  1. Click somewhere in a track.
2a) While holding the shift key, hold the right-arrow (or left-arrow) key to make a selection.
    OR
2b) While holding the shift key, repeatedly press the right-arrow (or left-arrow) key to make a selection.
  2. Use the delete key to remove the selection.
At this point the track still has keyboard focus (yellow border around it) an the editing cursor is at the delete point. I can still use Shift + arrow to make a selection.

When I do it I lose keyboard focus. What can cause that?

This is interesting - I just put back an old version, and it works fine. The problem is definitely the new version.

I’ve tried this on my M1 Macbook and still can’t reproduce the issue.

What version of macOS are you running?

– Bill

It’s OS Ventura 13.2.1

I went to a lower version of Audacity 3.2.4 and it’s working. But who knows how long.
