I am trying to do a "punch in repair" but the recording is starting/adding-on at the end of the track...

Windows 10 - Audacity 2.3.0

I am trying to do a “punch in repair” but the recording is starting/adding-on at the end of the track versus starting and ending related to the selected/highlighted part of the track. Any ideas as to what I am doing incorrectly? I am following the instructions from the below link.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm…if I “don’t” hold down shift it seems to work. I must be reading the instructions incorrectly.

What setting do you have in Recording preferences for “Record on a new track”
Recording prefs.png
This is set “off” by default - which means that Record starts recording at the end of the current track and Shift+Record records on a new track. If it’s checked “on” then the record functionality is reversed.

See:https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/recording_preferences.html

I have it checked. So are you saying that my software is working backwards related to everyone else? I just checked again. If I highlight a section of a track and click record “without” holding shift Audacity opens a new track and records only the length and just below the highlighted section of the original track.

So uncheck it.

Not differemt to everyone else some people prefer it tat way - that’s why it’s a settable preference. But yes, different to Audacity’s default setting
