how to take the orig. recording and export one song as a mp3

mac os 10.12.6, audacity 2.3.2

i clicked and dragged and the selected song was not exported.

how do I do this?

For just the selected you need to choose “Export Selected Audio”

For MP3 export you need LAME and not FFmpeg.

LAME is now already bundled in the latest version of Audacity.
