How to Label Each Track on or Next to Each Track Itsef

Audacity 2.03, Windows 7, 64 Bit, Sp1

Hi’
I am recording a book for Audible.com and I am new to Audacity.com. I have recorded a dozen of the characters’ voices, each on a different track but all in the same file. So, I view each of the tracks on the screen all at the same. Now I want to label each track with a label alongside the track or on the track itself but when I chose the LABEL option the labels appear on a new track at the bottom of the page. Is there a way I can put the label alongside or on the tracks?
Thank you,
Gerry

You can “name” the tracks.

You can also have the name of the track displayed (in yellow) on the actual track.
See the option in Preferences to “Show track name in waveform display”:

The current Audacity is 2.0.6: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. You should probably upgrade.
