I record on weekends. I’m getting silence as the answer to my questions. Is that always going to happen?
It depends on who’s online, when they are signed–in, and if they can answer. Probably most posts get a reply within a couple of hours.
It’s a forum not a “chat”.
I usually check-in several times a day and I’m in California. If I don’t know the answer I’ll leave it to someone else. Or sometimes if nobody has replied after a day or so, I might take a guess.
This is a forum, users helping each other, not a Help Desk.
Sometimes we can tell you to “Press this button” and your problem vanishes. Other times, you have a unique set of conditions and it’s almost impossible to figure out a solution.
There was a recent posting that took days and days because the poster did an upgrade to current from a Very Old Audacity— so old that most people would never have used it. That did take a while to unscramble.
It’s handy if you give detailed information when you post. Which computer? Which microphone? What is your goal or product? All these questions take time when we have to stop what we’re doing and ask.
And again, this is a loose format forum, so don’t ask questions like "I need to get this voice track out the door by dinnertime, how do I fix…?
Not happening.
My personal favorite question type can be rewritten: “Help Me Clean Up.” Those questions or posts almost always fail. There is a list of common sound problems or errors that can’t be fixed.
There are other variations, too. The old forum had a record holder who succeeded in recording very high quality voice work from an apartment in Hollywood. It took us just over a year.
