How do i record my speakers using a microphone?

Hi,

I’m trying to record the sound from my computer speakers. But when I plug my microphone into my CPU I lose the sound from my speakers. (I use a Rode Podcaster.) Can anyone help with that? I believe there is some simple way t do it but I can’t seem to find it.

It is a bad idea to record sound from your speakers using a microphone, though you should not lose speaker sound when plugging in a USB microphone. What has probably happened is that Windows has set the USB microphone as playback device and you need to change that. See here in the Manual:
