How do I batch edit meta data? Thanks!
Before exporting, you can fill all “static” fields in the metadata-editor.
After exporting, you could use the program MP3tag for Mac to make your changes.
I also use M3tag. (It works on all of the popular formats, not just MP3.)
You can select a folder-full of files to enter/edit all of the common information, and then one file at a time for the song title and track number, etc.
It also supports album artwork, which Audacity does not.
And… If you JUST edit the metadata in Audacity, the whole file is re-written when you re-export, so if you have an MP3 (or other lossy format) you are going through another generation of lossy compression. And if the file does have embedded artwork, you’ll lose it.
Although I always used either MP3tag (if many titles are involved) or iTunes/Music (if only a few changes were necessary), I never thought about such implications - thank you for clarifying this!
The FOSS alternative is kid3. The user interface is quirky (dare I say geeky).
