how do I apply effects to an individual track

This may seam like a silly question,but I cannot figure out how to apply effects to only one track at a time.For example,after finishing the recording of all the tracks in a project,what if I want compress each track with different settings without affecting any other audio on the other tracks?I am probably well behind many of you with my computer skills,as I learned the art of recording way back when it was all tape.Please someone walk me through the process of applying effects to one track at a time.Thanks,BOB :question:

Select just the track you want to operate on - do this by clicking in the Track Control Panel to the left of the track - but be careful not nudge any of the fader/pan controls there. Then do your compression. Repeat for other tracks.
