How do I add echo to the voice channel when recording

I have tried recording but cannot get an echo on just the voice channel. Can anyone help please.

What do you mean by “voice channel”?

Typically you have a stereo or mono file. If you have a voice-only file or voice-only in the left or right channel you can process that file/track. If you have a voice & music mixed together, the effects will be applied to everything. (You cannot un-mix audio and you can’t un-fry an egg  ).

If you have a multi-track recording, then of course you can process each track separately.

So if I upload a music file track and then recoerd a voice file, can I not then adjust the voice file with an echo without altering the music file??

Yes, of course you can… Just open the voice-only file in Audacity (and don’t open the music file). Then run the Echo effect, or the Reverb effect (GVerb) if you want reverb instead of a clear echo.

If you have a separate vocal recording, or a separate vocal track, it’s no problem. Just apply the effects before mixing.

And in fact, you CAN un-mix in this special case by subtracting-out the background music since you have the separate music-only file. But if you have separate files/tracks, of course that’s not necessary.
