How do I activate pinned playhead mode

When I’m listening to Audacity and I hit the pause button the playhead cursor disappears and I can only see where the audio started from, not where it was when i hit the pause button. Asking chatgpt I’ve learned that this feature used to exist in older versions.

In 3.7.2, you can toggle between “Standard Playhead” and “Pinned Playhead” using the “Toggle pinned playhead” button in the toolbar.

:white_check_mark: To enable or find it:

  1. Look at the top of the track display area, near the time ruler (where you see seconds).
  2. You’ll see a small pushpin icon :safety_pin:.
  • When it’s gray, the playhead is standard.
  • When it’s blue, the playhead is pinned.

Clicking this toggles between the two modes.

However, this information above does not apply to audcity 3.7.2

i dropped back to audacity 3.2 and was able to activate but it turns out that it didn’t solve my problem. in the following image, the green cursor shows where I am in the audio.

But when I hit the pause button the green cursor disappears like so (see next post, I am forbidden as a new user from posting more than one image in a post)

I need that cursor to remain when I hit the pause button. The reason why I need this is because audacity is great for studying foreign languages. you constantly have to rewind audio and relisten to things. when i listen to the foreign language i have to have the text that i am listening to as my foremost app. i’ve programmed my computer so that when i hit pause no matter what app is foremost, audacity will pause, so I can’t tell where the audio was just by looking at it.

I was only allowed to post one image so here is the other image

Never mind, I solved it. transport > playing > pause, then hit P
