Please bear with me as I am relatively new to Audacity and have been making voice recordings for my work using a portable MP3 device and importing those onto a music track with no major problems. However, on trying to record directly onto a music track I am getting very short high pitched beeps, like an alarm clock but higher pitch, when I play the track back. I have tried reducing the recording volume level and it has made no difference.
I am using Audacity 2.0.5 on an ASUS laptop with Windows 8.1. The problem arises when I use my HP Premium Digital Headset to record but not when I use a desktop Logitech microphone. Does anyone know if there is a simple resaon for or solution to this? I have looked through the FAQs and Forum topics but have not found an answer. Any advice gratefully received - thank you.
Audacity does not add beeps to recording or playback. Also it doesn’t record directly into the middle of existing tracks. The latest 2.0.6 version of Audacity may be obtained at Audacity ® | Downloads.
If you are SHIFT-clicking the Audacity Record button to append-record to the end of an existing track, try turning off Transport > Overdub in the menus at the top of Audacity. If you need Overdub on to hear the music track, try doing without the append record to the end of a track. Just hit Record to record into a new track.
If that does not help, try using another USB port for the HP headset. Plug in to an empty USB port, not to a USB hub.
