HELP!!

I have re-started ripping my vinyl collection. But all the way through the record i can hear pops and crackles. There are no scratches and i have hardly used the vinyl. I am using a new elliptical stylus.

I clean my records with water + isopropyl and a tiny drop of washing up liquid and use a cleaning cloth that came with my tv.

If there were just a dozen or so crackles, i wouldn’t mind, but it pops or crackles every second…

Can anyone suggest what i can do to fix this? I used the above technique for the last few months without too much of a problem…

For starters, try with a vinly that you not cleaned. If does not work remember that you’re changing the prefrences audicy (modes, sampling). If anything does not work then you remain HW sound card on your PC, or mabye HW beetwen your s turntable_ VCR (amplifier)_PC …

Isopropyl is not good for vinyl - avoid it. After washing and wiping with the cloth, rinse thoroughly with clear tap water, then rinse with distilled water and pat dry.

The suggestion to try an LP you have not washed is a good one - this may tell if your cleaning method is doing more harm than good.

What is your hardware setup? What turntable, into what pre-amp or interface, into what computer using what port, using what operating system and version of Audacity?

After washing and wiping with the cloth, rinse thoroughly with clear tap water, then rinse with distilled water and pat dry.

Like a dot of Joy for Dishes and warm – not hot – water.

If you’re compulsive enough, make tea as well. The higher humidity in the room will help prevent more static, sticky dust.

Thanks i will try using a vinyl record i have not cleaned… Then i will follow your other suggestions…

I must admit i haven’t been rinsing the vinyl after applying my cleaning mixture. But it looked so clean and i cannot see any dry bits in between the grooves…

If there actually is genuine click and pop damage on your LPs then you may want to consider using Brian Davies’ excellent ClickRepair s/w - it csosts a little ($40) byt is jus a lttle shy of being magical in the way it works. See this nsticky thread: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/click-pop-removal-clickrepair-software/1933/1

Koz’ suggestion about working in incresaed humidity is a good one - I don’t need to make tea for this as I live in Manchester UK …
