Hello. I am new to recording an need some advice. I have always been using Audacity but I recently bought 2 new interfaces and am having trouble with one of them. I bought a Tascam 1200 that works perfectly with Audacity. I have been recording with it. I also bought an Alesis Multimix 4 but the problem is that Audacity wont recognize this as an input. The computer sees the device under the MIDI menu but it doesnt show up in Audacity. I dont know if I need a driver for it or something like that. By the way, I am using a macbook pro with OS X El Capitan if that matters. Thank you. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
MIDI doesn’t count. Audacity doesn’t speak MIDI enough to be useful to you. If it doesn’t appear in Apple > System Preferences > Sound, then you can leave Audacity turned off until you fix that. This is a note from Sweetwater support.
Class compliant USB makes the MultiMix 4 USB FX stand out from other compact mixers you’ll find at Sweetwater. It lets you record and playback audio from your computer or your iOS device.
So they think this should have worked out of the box.
Don’t get burned with the Order of Appearance trick. Audacity checks for new devices when it starts. So connect your device and let it settle and then start or restart Audacity. You can also try Transport > Rescan.
