HELP! Win10 - extremely slow opening new file 26Min elaspsed & keeps saying 8Min remaining

I’ve used Audacity for many years to edit or spit mp3 files. Nothing fancy. It’s normally pretty easy and certainly has never taken this long to load. This mp3 file is 672MB (about 12hrs). I’ve never had any problems with Audacity. I installed the latest update hoping that would help but it made no difference. A few months ago I upgraded to Win10 and cannot remember whether this is my first time using Audacity since then.

Audacity since version 3.1 has a feature called “non-destructive editing” which multiplies the amount of memory used,
So if you are already using long/large files, editing them could now cause you to run out of memory.

If you are just splitting the mp3 , there are other audio editors which are quicker & more reliable than the latest version of Audacity,
e.g. old version of Audacity … Old Audacity versions download (e.g. v 2.3.2)
OCENaudio … ocenaudio
MP3DirectCut … mp3DirectCut - Wikipedia (lossless MP3 splitting)

I used Audacity years ago when I downsized and converted my lps, cassettes and a few cds (yes, I’m older than dirt) where the most complicated thing I did was remove the worst pops and clicks from those. Now I just need to occasionally split files to fit on my ancient mp3 player! Thanks for the help!
