Help! Unable to open aup files in Audacity

Hi!
I saved several aup files that I was planning on going back and editing later, except now I can’t open them in Audacity. I go to File > Open, and then it says it can’t find the project data folders.

An Audacity project consists of two parts:

  1. the AUP file (for example myProject.aup); this contains an outline of the project, but no actual audio data.
  2. the associated _data folder (for example, myProject_data); this folder contains the audio data.
Both must exist to open the project, and both must exist within the same folder.
See this page in the manual.

Thank you Bill!

so would I just drag the aup file INTO the project data folder?

No. They have to be sitting next to each other like this.

They have to be in the same location or folder and they have to have the same name and it has to be the name they were given inside Audacity.

You can tell what that name was by opening the AUP file in a text editor and reading it. Do not save anything.

Oh! I didn’t realize that about the files not being renamed. Super helpful, thank you so much!
