Help : How to select a part of a music

Hello I am new with this software but still I am not really patient with all the complexity of such software and IT so I ask you to help me. I have been looking everywhere but I couldn’t find any help.

So I have a song and I would like to select just a part of this song using Audacity? How should I do ? Everytime I select a part of the song it keeps playing the song and then they told me to cut or copy or select (whatever) I have to do ctrl + A ?

Sorry for my bad explanations but if someone could help that would be great

The easiest way is to click & drag the cursor over the part you want to select.

Everytime I select a part of the song it keeps playing the song

Typically, you don’t select while it’s playing. If you click play after selecting it should play the selection.

song and then they told me to cut or copy or select (whatever)

What do you want to do with the selection? Do you want to copy it and make a new-separate file? Make the selected part louder/quieter?

I have to do ctrl + A ?

Ctrl+A selects the entire file.

I too, am a new (and unsophisticated user)
My wife and I are celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary, and I simply want to cut down and Edit a song for our dance.
It’s Ed Sheeran’s song “Perfect” which we need to cut down to about 2 minutes - 2:30 tops!
A couple of questions please:
(1) How do you “Mark” exactly where you want to make the Cut?
(2) then, how do you “Mark” where you want to “Attach” to?

I feel so inept at this - I hope I find some kind, and patient people here!
