I use a turtle beach x12 as my headset and the mic is listed as Mic in at rear panel pink. I have restarted Audacity but that has not helped it getting recognized my only two options are:
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) and Realtek Digital Output.
Obviously neither works. My operating system is Windows 7. My headset and Mic are recognized in the Audio Manager and as far as I know there is no software for the old model X12s.
So your system is a cousin to this:
No, it shouldn’t need additional software. Mic-In is a built-in part of the machine. It came that way.
We had another posting with a similar problem. Everything seemed to be OK in Windows land, but Audacity just couldn’t find the microphone or sound connection.
We need to wait for a Windows elf to check in. I have no idea.

Those are outputs. Look in the input box in Audacity’s Device Toolbar (to the right of the outputs list).
Have you been into Windows Sound Missing features - Audacity Support to enable all the mic inputs?
If that does not help, make sure you have Audacity 2.0.6 from here Audacity ® | Download for Windows. Try choosing a different “Host” (first box) in Device Toolbar.
