Having problems where tracks go to mono randomly

I am experiencing problems in Audacity where when I drag an audio file to an audio track, the audio track I try to get it to or audio tracks around it become mono for no reason when I want them to stay as stereo tracks. I have only started experiencing this problem after updating my audacity to the newest version. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Interesting… When I drag an WAV or MP3 file into a project Audacity creates a new track for for these files, so it won’t me do that. However, in 3.4.0, I can drag a mono track into another mono track but it won’t let me drag into a stereo track.

More importantly, I am able to Cltr+C (copy) a mono track and Ctrl+V (paste) it into a stereo track where it gets duplicated. Perhaps this is what you are looking to do,
