Having problems recording from cassette [SOLVED]

Hi. I’m new here and seem to be a bit lost.
I have purchased the cassette to MP3 Converter and have installed the software from the disk included. The version of Audacity is 2.0.2 and I downloaded from the .exe file. I have Windows Vista. I have a second computer with Windows XP. That computer isn’t online so I transfered the Audacity folder to it from the Vista machine. I am having the same problem on each.

The problem I’m having is in downloading to the computer from the Tape to MP3 player. When I start the player and then press the red “Record” button I get a flat line in the progress bar. The unit is running correctly as I listen in via earphones.

On the XP machine I did get it to record once. I don’t think I did anything different to the other attempts, but I’m assuming I must have.

I’d really appreciate some help with this please.

Thanks, Bill.

Audacity 2.0.2 is obsolete. Get 2.0.5 from here http://audacityteam.org/download/windows .

Connect the tape player before launching Audacity. Then you have to tell Audacity to record from the USB tape player in Device Toolbar . Audacity does not decide the input device for itself. And you have to turn the input volume up.

See if this helps: Recording with USB turntables or USB cassette decks - Audacity Manual .

Thanks Gale, that is exactly what I needed to know and I am now recording easily and saving in MP3 format.
Your help much appreciated.
