Glitchy Audio

I own a Macbook Pro with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports and running Mojave 10.14.16. I have a Blue Yeti Nano microphone with a USB. I am running Audacity 2.2.1.

Whenever I am recording audio, the resulting audio comes out glitchy; garbled and messy and occasionally dropping out. I’ve adjusted the buffer multiple times; however my main problem is that I cannot plug directly into the Macbook Pro without using a hub to see if that would fix the glitchy audio. My buffer is 0 at the moment (I have also tried up to 50000), and this doesn’t do anything. I’ve also closed almost all windows to try-- no dice. Is there a solution to this?

Thank you.

Audacity 2.2.1 is ancient (Dec 2017). Any reason you’re using that and not the latest 2.4.2?

I’ve updated to the newest and now every time I try recording it tells me I have ‘dropouts’. I’ve tried the suggestions on the Audacity manual besides plugging the microphone directly into a USB port (as in the 2019 macbook’s case, I cannot physically do so). Still glitchy audio/dropouts occurring.

Do you mean the suggestions here FAQ:Recording - Troubleshooting - Audacity Manual ?

We should update that advice about directly connecting the USB device to specifically say “don’t use a hub”. Using a USB-to-USB-3 adapter should not be an issue.

Check in Activity Monitor to see if any other process is using excessive CPU time.

In Audacity zoom way out when you are recording (so screen redraws don’t happen).

Run your Macbook with the power supply connected.

That’s all I can think of for now.
