Gain randomly increases without me changing it

I’m working with OS X 10.8 and I don’t know if it’s a bug or if this even worth posting, but when I’m editing a track I usually copy it and create a new track to paste below it and a lot of times when I do this i’ll play it and it will blow my ears out because the gain on the first track cranks up to full blast without me changing it. I guess I could be mindful of this so every time I do this it doesn’t blast my ear drums out but it would be nice to know if there’s a way to make this annoying thing from happening.

Audacity plays all tracks stacked top to bottom at the same time unless you intentionally change it with the MUTE or SOLO buttons. So if you copied one track worth of show to a second one, the combination will double in volume.

Ok, makes sense. Thanks man
