funny transfer of recorded material

hi guys. i have just bought a new computer and installed the audacity software on it. now i would like to transfer audio recording from a voice recorder via the double jack cord (as i used to on my old laptop before without any problems). what is happening today is that when i connect the cable ends (to the correct connectors), i can hear the recording straight from the computer (when my speakers are turned on), but the recording continues as the voice recorder continue playing even after i have stopped the recording to my pc (stop it on the screen).
generally, when i transfer the recording i can see on the screen that the record is being transferred. what puzzles me is that when i switch the speakers off (on the computer still), , it is just buzzzzzing noise and it even records my typing on the keyboard or me speaking and swearing. or when i plug the other hole for headphones on the pc with jack from my external speakers set, the recording does not transfer and again just the buzzzzzzzing sound is recorded instead. it appears that the pc just channels the recording played from the voice recorder loud and records it form its own speakers by its own microphone.
i simply want to transfer the recording to the pc and do other things along this instead wait in quietness like a mouse in the corner until the transfer is done.
i am not very fluent with pcs. i have w7 now, dont know if this matters.

If you look in “windows recording devices” and disable the computer’s internal microphone …

If Windows-7 is like Windows-Vista you can see the “recording devices” by right mouse click on the loudspeaker (volume) icon on the bottom right corner of the screen, (next to the clock).

thanx, it seems working. i have found those via the realtek media and disabled them (microsoft and lenovo ones). they also disappeared from the recording devices list. how will i get them back? where to search them to enable them again if i want to speak to someone via internet?

To make disabled devices appear …

Right-click anywhere inside the Recording tab and choose “Show disabled devices”

The “recording tab” has been selected on the right in the image below …

thank you a lot. one learns something new every day
