frequency readout in spectrogram

Greetings, I have a question about the spectrogram view. Is there a way to read out the frequency and intensity of a spectral line in the spectrogram? Is there a cursor that displays the frequency and intensity of the point where it is located?

I teach a musical acoustics course: http://www.colorado.edu/physics/phys1240/phys1240_fa15/

I have been using Raven Lite for the “homelabs” in which students analyze musical sounds, but there are installation problems on Apple computers, so I’m thinking of switching to Audacity.

A cursor readout is a feature request.

For a point, as far as I know you can only get a display of the frequency. In the current Audacity 2.1.1, go into the Spectral Selection view using the Track Dropdown menu, enable Spectral Selection Toolbar in View > Toolbars, then click in the track. You can then read the frequency in Spectral Selection Toolbar.

You can however zoom the vertical scale to get a better idea of the amplitude.

Also see Analyze > Plot Spectrum… (for regions).
