folder priveliges

i recorded a speech track and when i went to export and save functions it said i didn’t have privileges to save to audacity folder,or words to that effect, and asked if i wanted to save in admin folder which i did…is this normal? i am using audacity 2.0.2 and windows 7

You shouldn’t be doing either one. Save your work to the music folder, documents folder or desktop. One of the operating folders, not one of the system folders. You can create damage or the computer just won’t let you do it.

If the message is actually “Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?” this could be caused by the drive being formatted with an earlier file system. See here (it applies to Windows 7 too):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931277 .

Sometimes user permissions can just get messed up and you may need to “take ownership” of the file or folder. Try these links (the second link is an easier method):
