File Not Recognized when trying to open .aup project file

After I tried to reopen my .aup project file for more editing, I got a message stating something like
“Audacity didn’t recognize the type of file. If it’s compressed try importing using Import Raw Data.”

I tried importing the Raw Data but only got noise.

Is there a fix for this? I use OSX 10.9 Mavericks in a late 2012 Mac Mini.

Use File > Open… to open an AUP file. The file may also be in File > Open Recent.

File > Import > Audio… or dragging in the AUP will not work.

Gale,

Many thanks for your reply. I did what you suggested, but my sound project .aup file is unfortunately
irretrievable. It’s a bummer, but I’ll start over from scratch.

Are you using the latest Audacity 2.0.5 from http://audacityteam.org/download/mac ?

Have you been hand-editing the AUP file? You shouldn’t do that. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_projects.html for more on projects.

Many thanks Gale for the reference material. I’ll study it.

Yeah, I think that’s what I was doing – hand editing tracks.

If you attach the AUP file we could see if we can see a syntax problem with it. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 .

I unfortunately erased the project file. Thanks for your replies of help.
I really appreciated it.

All The Best,

Chuck
