File formats [CLOSED]

Hi.
I’m using OS X 10.10.5 & Audacity 2.1.1.
I downloaded Audacity normally but the LAME MP3 encoder via the zip.
I’m brand new to Audacity and am confused to see files that I recorded on a ZOOM H2n as 44.1kHz WAV files now appear in Finder as MP3 files (but still with a sample rate of 44,100). Please could someone explain the significance as I’ve deliberately avoided MP3s due to their reputed lossiness.
Thanks,
Barry

Why is this an Audacity problem? If you want information on a file recorded in Zoom you can open it in QuickTime and press COMMAND + I (eye), or download MediaInfo http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download/Mac_OS.

If you need more help please post a screenshot of what you see in Finder that concerns you. Screenshot is COMMAND + SHIFT + 3. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

MP3’s are lossy. If you chose to export an MP3 from Audacity then that is what you will get.

Thanks for the prompt response, Gale. Your comments were useful - I looked further into my problem and found a friend had changed the Zoom’s setting to record as MP3.

Sorry to waste your time.
