File Error: Audacity failed to read from a file in C:.

Hey guys,
So, I use Audacity to record my voice for commentaries for YouTube. I have used this software for 2 years now and never had a problem with it.

However, after a recent windows update I now get an error message when I click on “Save Other > MP3”, “Save Other > Audio”, “Save Project” and also when I click on the Audio Track arrow, Format then try to change that, I get this error!

I originally though this was a read/write problem with my Hard Drive but I have set access to Administrators and Users to “Full Access” so anyone can access and change the files / folders on my drive.

I also tried saving this clip to a external Hard Drive with the same result, error always being to the drive that Audacity is installed on.

I would close Audacity and restart my computer but the problem is that I have a 2 and a half hour recording open on Audacity and I can’t save it in any way.

I have read 4 other forum threads all to no results that help.

I have no started playing back the audio and recording system sound with OBS.

If anyone has a simpler fix, please respond!
FAST!

I don’t know what that means.
Do you mean when you change the “Format” from the track drop-down menu as described here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audio_track_dropdown_menu.html

I don’t see those options in Audacity 2.2.2, so I guess you’re using an old version.
The current version (2.2.2) is available via the Audacity website. Try that and see if you still have the problem: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

You mean that the error message always says: “Audacity failed to read from a file in C:” regardless of where you are saving? That would make sense if Audacity is unable to read data from the temp folder (which is on drive C: by default).
