I have been working on editing a very large file (a bit over 1hr) in Audacity 3.6.4, however as I have progressed through the file, the software has grown slower and slower to respond to my actions. At this time, it is now crashing if I attempt to copy and paste sections, or run any edit effects, and the file is not compacting when I close Audacity. Are there any steps I can take to troubleshoot this issue?
Any way you can hack up the show into smaller pieces for editing?
Audacity makes protection copies of the whole show each time you make a change or other edit. Count your edits. That’s the number of hours of sound Audacity is holding for you.
Please tell us you have an isolated, protection copy of the show before editing. The next step in your adventure is to have Audacity crash during an edit and destroy the edited show.
Good to have a backup.
There is no good way to avoid that continuous saving thing.
Some additional information I am discovering as I keep working on it:
The crash only occurs when trying to overwrite a snip segment with a copy or apply edits to a snip segment. If I re-merge the snip, I can then highlight and copy or run edits on the highlighted section. The program continues to run unusually slow, and I am not certain why this started now, as I had been using the same instance just fine earlier this morning.
I also checked my memory and RAM, which doesn’t indicate an issue.
