Feature Request: split clip should behave the same on label tracks as it does on audio

current behavior:

  • splitting an audio clip creates a visible split, and using the time shift tool moves the newly created clip as expected.

  • splitting a label track does notcreate a visible split, and using the time shift tool on label track moves the whole label track - not expected

Note that splitting clips and using Sync-Lock on Tracks moves the whole label track with the split clip being time shifted. This is not desirable.

Desired behavior:

  • splitting a label clip should create a visible split, and using the time shift tool on a label track should move only the portion of labels in the clip.

use case: I have been editing a podcast episode, marking it up with labels for chapter markers, and then need to go back and add a segment in the middle. I need to create space for that new segment using split clip and time shift, and do not want to have to adjust all the labels after the split manually. I would like to select them or a clip of them and time shift them with the audio track.

OS X 10.14.6, Audacity for OS X 2.3.3

If, for illustration purposes, we say that the point where you want to make the split is at 30 seconds, and you want to make a gap that is 10 seconds long:
You could select from 30 seconds to the end of the track in both the audio track and the label track.
Then “Cut”.
Then place the cursor at the 40 second position, and ensure that both the audio track and label track are selected.
Then “Paste”.

I agree that this is less convenient that just split and drag, but it’s a workaround.
