I use an m-audio mrack usb soundcard on windows 11.
in audacity 4 beta 2 I choose this option as the recording device - which is of course a stereo device - but for a mono recording there is no option to choose either left or right input for the input device. I can only choose both which is a stereo input. I know audacity will create a mono recording from the stereo input but it would be good to have the option to choose either the left or the right input as a single mono source.
It’s one of those things which we’ve had designs for for ages, but which never materialized due to the current audio engine being a bit wonky. It’s probably gonna be done in Audacity 5, perhaps sooner if the team decides to replace the engine with an intermediary before.
In the meantime, you can either do some manual routing through something like voicemeeter which splits up your thing into two virtual independent devices, record stereo and then split the stereo track to mono and delete the unwanted track, or use Soundscaper (essentially Audacity 4 in the browser), where I have added this as part of a multi-track recording feature:
(that said, Soundscaper is still a work-in-progress, and I don’t expect it to be stable before Audacity 4’s release anyway)
