faulty tools!

Hey,

My name is Uriel and I’ve been experiencing this issue with Audacity. I’ve been using Audacity for about 2 years and this is the first time this issue has came up and I’m baffled at what to do to solve the issue. In my audacity program whenever I try to cut out a segment or even just trying to amplify a certain area, the whole wave length gets distorted and I don’t know what to do to solve it. I wish to get an answer for this problem soon so I can continue my work on Audacity because I’m unable to find anyone with a similar issue to mine.

Uriel

What’s the Audacity version number?

Koz

Hi Uriel, yes, please see the pink panel at the top of the page and tell us what version of Audacity you are using (all three numbers). It sounds like your Audacity is out of date. Please obtain the current 2.1.2 version here: http://audacityteam.org/download/.

If you cut a piece out without finding zero crossings or without cutting in the optimal place you can create a click at the join. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_editing.html#clicks.

If you enable “Allow Clipping” in Amplify, you can get distortion. Don’t enable that checkbox.

If you still have the problem in 2.1.2 please try to describe the distortion. What does it look like or sound like?

How many Audacity tracks do you have? The volume of multiple Audacity tracks combines, which causes distortion when the combined volume exceeds 0 dB.
