Extremely low export volume

Hello! I am trying to export a recording, and when I do the resulting 16-bit wav is intensely quieter than it was in Audacity, both when I play it in the Finder’s preview and when I listen to it in iTunes. If I re-open the file in Audacity, however, it plays at its intended volume. The same thing happens when I export as an AIFF, and when I export a different track from the same project which was recorded months ago.

Any help would be delightful. Thank you kindly.

What’s your Audacity and OSX version?
And what format are you exporting?

Also, when exporting, there is a volume slider in one of the dialog boxes. It might just go unnoticed if you’re in a hurry…

Audacity 2.0.3, OS 10.9.5.

I am exporting 16-bit wav. I see that next to format-select pulldown menu (on the same screen where I name the file) there is an “options…” button, but clicking it says that there are no options for this format. After clicking okay, there’s another menu called metadata, but that looks like it’s all documentation options rather than quality options.

Please post a short sample (just a few seconds) in WAV format.
See here for how to do that: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-post-an-audio-sample/29851/1

Huh. Well, now it’s working. I am not sure what I changed. I exported as “other uncompressed files” and then manually selected 16-bit wav, and the volume is fine. But then I went back to exporting the way I always have and those are coming out okay too.

Ah well. Thanks for listening.
