When I record, there are no waves, just a rough blue horizontal line that might be trying to become a wave.
When say, 3 songs are finished and I get ready to export by right clicking the mouse and holding it down after “skipping to start”, how far do I know to move the mouse to the right so I get the three songs and not a lot of empty recording when I export? In other words, do I have to watch the time it played and guess at how far and long to hold the curser?
I’m using Audacity 2.0 which is what I got with the cassette converter.
I’m playing commercial songs from a cassette. The blue line I get is nothing like the one you show in amplitude as it is just a rough single line.
Should I uninstall Audacity 2.0 and download the latest version from internet? Even with 2.0, shouldn’t I be getting the blue line like you showed? I suspect I have something wrong in the way I set it up.

Yes. That’s probably not the cause of your problem. but it’s easier for us to help each other if we’re all using the exact-same software. And since it’s open source, there are unofficial versions floating-around. Download it from AudacityTeam.org.
We’re not all using the same hardware, but we have to deal with that.
