Exported audio of conversation has deleted sections

I recently recorded a conversation between a colleague and I. After exporting and listening to the recording I have found that most of the conversation has been deleted and what should have been 3 hours of conversation turned to 1:10. Has anyone experienced this? How can I avoid in the future?

I also deleted the original audacity saving so I have not got the original recording.

Cheers

Please always tell us your version of Audacity (all three numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page).

It is recommended to examine and ideally listen to the exported audio before deleting the Audacity project. We can’t guess what happened, but you might have had a smaller length selected and done Export Selection instead of Export Audio.

Or someone or something cleaned up your Audacity temporary folder before you could export.

Have you tried Time Machine for the AUP file and _data folder?

Then that’s the end of the story. Without listening to the show, we would have no way of knowing what failed. It’s not as simple as it just stopped recording. It could have digital dropouts, speed problems, sample rate mismatch, etc.

But now we’ll never know.
