escalating sound loop with software playthrough

Hey

im having an issue with software playthrough. when i attempt to record with it, i get a tiny noise that replays louder and louder each time, i assume recording itself and amplifying it each time, making the feature unusable. the issue is that i need this feature to record from my keyboard as midi is mucking up for me with it and i need to record through my micrphone jack.

I have tried recording even when NOTHING is plugged into any audio related thing, and this still happens, no idea where its getting the noise from.

anyways, cheers for any help!

You should not be using Software playthrough for this task as, even if you get it working properly there will be a delay between the sound going in and the sound going out.
“Transport menu > Software Playthrough” should be off (not selected).

I’m guessing that if you do that, you can’t hear your piano, in which case we need more information about your set-up for how you may be able to hear your piano while software playthrough is off.

Laptop or Desktop computer?
XP, Vista, Win 7?
Internal/External sound card? (make and model if known)
What sort of keyboard?
How exactly is the keyboard connected to the computer?
What input/output sockets are available on the keyboard?
Any other information that may be relevant? (too much information is better than not enough).

my PC is built for gaming rather than sound, if that helps at all.

By “output” do you mean “headphone socket”?

You should be going into the “line” socket not the “mic” socket.
