I have installed Autacity 2.3.0 on my Windows 10 computer and also installed both Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows and ffmpeg-win-2.2.2. Autacity can find LAME and FFMPEG files without any problem, but when I export music as an MP3 file, I still get the following error message:
error updating lame-tag frame, can’t open file for reading and writing
I cannot use Autacity at all because of this issue.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity 2.3.0, but got the same error message when exporting MP3 files. Is it because some bug in this new version or not?
Same here… Everything’s OK for me with 2.3.0 on Win10 64-bit. (I just upgraded from 2.2.2 and I didn’t re-install LAME.)

Did you have 2.2.2 installed and working, or is Audacity new to you?
If 2.2.2 worked you can try deleting 2.3.0 and re-installing 2.2.2.
Or you can export to WAV or FLAC and use a 3rd-party MP3 encoder. (I use TAudioConverter for all kinds of audio conversions.)*

I get “bass.dll” errors the 1st time I run TAudioConverter but I just click OK and it works. I think it’s somehow related to the multi-core processor in the computer because it only pops-up once on my dual-core computer and 3 times on my quad-core. But, once it’s been run I don’t get the error again until I re-start the computer.
I don’t have Audacity 2.2.2 installed but 2.3.0 only.
It works perfectly after I switch to either of my two other Windows user accounts on the same laptop computer.
So the issue might come from a possible software conflict since this Windows user account has other paid audio software installed for this user account only.
Anyway, Audacity is by far the best audio editing software I have used and even better than some paid ones. I am happy using it.
