I have same issue. “error opening sound device” or any audio device, even my on board audio.
Audacity 3.0 Is the only recording program installed on my Windows 10 PC that can not see my audio card. In fact, in settings, the device preferences don’t show anything in my choices, recording or playback. It is a pull down menu that is blank.
I just went and verified I had the latest drivers. In fact my drivers are 3 days old. (installed today with pc restart.)
I uninstalled Audacity and restarted and then reinstalled Audacity 3.0 before submitting this.
My PC was just updated with latest drivers and security updates. It is perfectly capable of running this.
