Error opening recording device. Error code:-9996 invalid device

I bought a new Dell desktop with Windows 11 and retired my Windows 10. I installed the latest version of Audacity on Windows 11. I have been trying to make this work for a few days now, but I am frustrated. Even Windows 10 on my old computer crashed. I am trying to extract some audio from YouTube (no microphone).
Any helpful suggestions from the experts out there?

You need to throw numbers around when you post. Audacity 3.7.0?

Thank you for the response. My first time here. The version is 3.7.1. I got to the error code 0: Error opening recording device.\nError code: 0 Success.“,
“mechanism”: {runtime_error”,
“handled”: false
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again

With a new setup like that, you can have two problems. First layer: Recording from the internet isn’t natural. Natural is playing internet shows to your speakers or headphones. Recording to Audacity can come from a microphone or a line-in connection. The two systems don’t easily cross.

The second layer is security. Audacity won’t record from anything without passing a security check. The machine will either tell you the recording device is not there, or it’s broken.

This is where I say I’m a Mac forum elf and don’t know how to cure either of those problems. So you can use that information to research solutions, or wait for a Windows elf to post ideas.

Search the forum: “Record internet from Windows 11.” And “Certify Windows recording devices.”
