Error on open/import audio file

Windows 10 Home, Audacity 2.1.3 from exe installer.

I had to update Audacity this morning and now cannot select any new files to open or import. System opens files previously worked on with no problems. I have attached a screenshot of the error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, selected ‘reset preferences’, but still cannot get the open file window to remain open. Need help please, as I have a lot of work to do for the play that I am currently designing sound for!

What file type are you trying to import? MP3?

What drive is the “Swastika Party” folder on? Is there a connectivity problem with that drive?

I tried with an MP3 file, as well as a WAV file - same issue. The files were on my main C drive, so no, there should not have been any connectivity problems. I don’t know exactly what I did to fix it so tried changing various settings, and it is now working. I have a feeling that it may have been the interface host - I changed it from MME to Windows DirectSound and that seems to have done the trick!

Thanks for responding to my plea for help

Cheers

The audio host should not be relevant.

If it is an older spinning hard drive you could do a S.M.A.R.T. check on it.

If it happens again and you can see some pattern to what triggers the problem and what solves it, please let us know.
