I’ve installed the software for my Audacity USB casette to Mp3 recorder. However though I can hear the cassette playing, the device won’t open when I press record I get an error message: Error while opening sound device, please check the input device settings and the project rate sample. I’ve checked and double checked what I can, the preferences for the device do not give the same results as are in the manual. So I can’t record anything. Also, when I open my Windows control panel for audio devices, it shows the Audacity device as default, but then the screen freezes up!

I thought we wrote something about this specific problem, but I can’t find it…

Audacity is software (a free computer program).
Audacity® do not make, brand or sell cassette to Mp3 recorders. Is your device branded as “Audacity”?
Check that you have the current version of Audacity (look in “Help > About Audacity” for the version number.
The current version is 2.0.2. If you have an older version, please replace it with the current version (available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/)
The setup for recording from a USB cassette player is the same as for a USB turntable. Instructions are here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recording_with_usb_turntables.html#setup
