I was editing a podcast with 5 mono tracks and 1 stereo track when I had to restart the computer. When I opened Audacity it recovered all open files except for the podcast which gave an error message about not being able to open this file and something about FFmpeg needing to be installed, which it is. Is there anything I can do to get it back?
all open files except for the podcast
We have to be able to follow you. So all the mono tracks were recovered but the stereo track failed?
I had to restart the computer.
Historical jokes aside, Windows machines just don’t crash that much any more—unless yours does. Does it? Is this a normal occurrence?
I think you have whatever Audacity recovered plus all the original recordings and sound files you walked into the project with. It is strongly recommended that you make WAV Export copies of all live performances and keep them in a separate, safe place such as thumb drives, external hard drives, or cloud storage.
You should be making arrangements to recut the show from backups, not setting up the microphone again.

It’s not unusual for a crash to cause progressive instability. The project is recovered, but then starts falling apart bit by bit.
Start over.
