Error in Opening Sound Device [SOLVED]

Hi,

I had used previous versions of Audacity before using Windows 7 Home Premium. Smooth and never any issues. Unfortunately, I had to re-install Windows and wiped clean of previous apps. I just installed Audacity 2.06. Enabled “line-in” and disabled “microphone” from the Recording tab of “Manage audio and sound” off the Control Panel.

I played an MP3 using VLC. Hit the record button and get an error message saying error while opening sound device. Please check recording device settings and the project sample rate. What did I not not do with this version which I didn’t have to do with previous version?

Cheers

The show isn’t coming from Line-In. It’s coming from Stereo-Mix. Stereo-Mix is a “fake” device generated in software that allows the speaker sound to “fold back” into the recording service so Audacity can capture it.

Thank you so much.

“Stereo Mix” did not show as an option until I clicked on “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices”. Perhaps as the tutorial said, sound card manufacturer is trying to hide it/or make it more difficult to find. This was not the case one year ago. I now have re-installed newer driver. Maybe hence the puzzle.
